It's been another busy week. Johan started summer camp at the Y on Monday. The first day he said he liked it but then gave it a so-so. As the week has progressed I think he is enjoying it more. As usual, it takes him awhile to warm up to others.
Each day they go to a different park in our town or Piqua - just up the road. The list of activities include soccer, tennis, volleyball, frisbee golf, etc. They usually do a craft at some point during the day and end the day swimming at the Y. Today they are going to the rec center to play ping pong, foosball, Wii, etc. then they are going roller skating in the afternoon. I imagine that will be a first for Johan.
Tom and Johan were able to join me at my work function Wednesday evening. It was a casual gathering at Rollandia for our sales team. Rollandia is billed as a family fun/golf center. They had batting cages, putt-putt, volleyball, corn hole, a game room and a par 3 golf course. Johan and Tom played a round of putt-putt which Johan thoroughly enjoyed. He tried the batting cages after a little encouragement but came out frustrated. He connected with a few - but not enough according to him. I thought he did a great job for never having batted before! I figured we'll have to get a wiffle ball and bat to practice at home some more.
I've read that the town in Colombia that Johan is from has very warm weather most of the year. This has been evident in Johan's dislike for air conditioning and his joy in the 90-plus degree weather we have been having!
Johan's personality continues to blossom. Now that we are into week 3 he is definitely relaxing more. He sings or talks to himself as we are playing games! A friend of ours, Melissa, who is a volunteer with KidSave told us the first two weeks are the honeymoon period. After that point the kids loosen up and start acting like themselves. Melissa was right on.
We're headed to Columbus tomorrow for another KidSave gathering. The big event of the day will be horseback riding. Stay tuned for pictures...
