The Girls Arrive

The girls arrived at Dayton Airport about 3:30p.m. yesterday. They have become quite the seasoned travelers and make their way unescorted now. Johan greeted them with his English 'Hello'. The language barrier took a bit to sink in with them. Johan had a long face on the drive home with all of the girls chatter. We figured it would take a while for the ice to break.

Shortly after we got home we dove into a round of Uno. That definitely helped loosen everyone up. After Uno the girls watched TV and Johan jumped back on his bike. He road down to Stoneyridge Creek to watch the ducks.

We made a quick run to UDF for ice cream after dinner, then the girls offered to watch a Disney movie in Spanish with Johan. We used the English subtitles again. I was the only one who only dozed once or twice - the others disappeared or crashed completely. :-) It's tough watching a movie that is not in your native language! So I guess we can appreciate the situation for Johan should we challenge him with an English movie with Spanish subtitles!

A bit of interesting info that I forgot to share from the other night...
Johan and the other kids have a chaperone with them, Martha. Martha is a social worker and is the legal guardian for the children while they are here. We found out Wednesday night that Martha lives in Johan's town and has known Johan for quite some time. She brought us a CD with pictures of Johan at school and in different situations, which is quite a treat considering the other host families have very little information on their children. Martha rotates between the host families and will be with us from July 26th until August 6th. We are looking forward to her visit and to hear more about the area in which they live and what she knows about Johan.
