Yesterday was chock full of water adventures and new experiences for Johan. We picked up a rented jet ski early in the morning and spent a good portion of the day on the water tubing and jet skiing. An early afternoon thunderstorm caused a few anxious moments but we headed to a nearby marina and waited it out. The evening was spent playing games and relaxing. Johan learned to play Skip-Bo. We're pretty sure the little sneak cheated a few times - but none of us knew enough Spanish to call him on it! We'll get him next time. He loves playing games!
Today Johan learned to fish. My brother gave him 5 minutes before he got bored. Indeed the first time around he only lasted about 5 minutes. About two hours later, however, my brother caught a fish - and that was it. Johan was hooked - he was completely focused on catching one. And catching one he did. By the end of the day he had caught 6 and my brother caught 2. He became very adept at baiting the hook and handling the fish he caught. They were blue gill. He got cut by the first one he handled - then quickly learned how to take them off the hook with a towel so they wouldn't cut him. He was a very proud fisherman.
My mother (Sherry B) now has Johan working a jigsaw puzzle. As he does with anything he is after it with gusto!
On a personal note...I want to thank all of those who are supporting us in our efforts with Johan. Your words of encouragement, your curiousity in what we are doing and/or your donations in various forms give us strength to push forward in our endeavor to find Johan a home.
